“They Thought a Bullet Would Silence Us”

Today we’re celebrating Malala Day (albeit a week late). Happy birthday to Malala Yousafzai who has courageously fought for every girl’s and boy’s right to an education.

“They thought a bullet would silence us, but they failed. Nothing changed in my life except this: Weaknesses, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was born…One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world.” -Malala Yousafzai

Today I led an assembly for the school celebrating Malala Day and showed a video of her speech at the U.N. as well as the One Billion RIsing video that i find so intense, yet inspirational. Malala truly is amazing especially to think she is only 16 and already has overcome and accomplished a profound amount and has made the world see there is still a gap in girls and boys education worldwide. She has opened the world’s eyes to the importance of women’s rights particularly every girl’s right to an education. What an inspiration. You go girl!
